Charter Oak State College Adds Free Mental Health Care Resource for Students

College partners with virtual health services provider TimelyMD

NEW BRITAIN, CT – March 21, 2022 – As part of Charter Oak State College’s (www.CharterOak.edu) ongoing efforts to fully support their 100% Online student body, the College has partnered with a leading telehealth company to provide students free and immediate access to medical and mental health support.

TimelyMD is a telehealth provider focused solely on the health care of higher education students.  Launched in 2017, their HIPAA compliant platform enables users to access care from the device and location of their choice.  TimelyMD works with over 150 colleges and universities to provide no-cost visits, ensuring 24/7 access to mental health services regardless of ability to pay or insurance coverage.

Charter Oak Provost, Dr. David Ferreira said, “The negative mental health impacts of worry and stressors over the COVID-19 Pandemic have impacted our student’s performance. Since the pandemic began, we have seen an increase in students that withdraw from classes primarily for external life issues.  Supporting our online students taking classes on a laptop is just as important as those in a classroom.”

All students will have access to the grant-funded Telehealth Consultations 24/7 beginning immediately.

With telehealth becoming more and more common since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, TimelyMD CEO and co-founder Luke Hejl said more students are now able to take advantage of easily accessible mental health services to improve their overall well-being.

Charter Oak State College is Connecticut’s public online college, offering career-focused degrees and certificates in the fields of Health Care, Early Childhood Education, Public Safety, and Business.  The College is well known for degree completion, honoring qualified existing college credits, prior learning, military, as well as professional certifications.  Charter Oak caters to adult students who are juggling work and families along with their own education goals.
