Hartford, CT – Chrysalis Center is once again hosting its annual “Donation Creation” Food Drive through June 1st to fill the shelves of Freshplace, the organization’s innovative client-choice, fresh food, and case management food pantry. Freshplace serves up to 100 families living in the poorest neighborhoods in the North End of Hartford, Since the onset of the pandemic, Freshplace has seen an increase in the demand for food.

Chrysalis Center invites individuals to organize, form teams and collect nonperishable food items for families in need. As the needs are greater this year, Donation Creation has been has extended to run for two months, to give teams the opportunity to collect food during the months of April & May. As a fun twist, teams are invited to create a “sculpture” with the food donations, snap a photo and send it in to be entered into a contest.

“As we enter into year two of the pandemic, our needs are just as great if not greater, than last year,” said Adria Giordano, Director of Development & Communications. “Families who come to Freshplace for help live in the poorest neighborhoods of Hartford. The pandemic has made it even harder for these families to obtain fresh and nutritious food. By filling the shelves now, we will have food throughout the summer, when drives are not typically held. Hunger does not take a break, and we are very grateful to everyone who has supported us and will continue to support us. Donation Creation is a great way for businesses, organizations, schools and young people to come together and make a difference.”

The organization’s goal is to collect 5,000 non-perishable food items to feed clients throughout the summer months. In addition, online donations are also accepted to help the organization purchase food in need.
