FARMINGTON, Conn., October 5, 2021 – ConnectiCare, a leading health plan in Connecticut, hosted its 4th annual Gran Fondo on Saturday, October 2. Family, friends, and riders of all ages and skill levels were encouraged to participate in the event, which was held in a semi-virtual, self-navigated format this year to keep riders and volunteers safe.
Riders participated in the event at Hammonasset State Park, while others participated virtually, completing the ride in their local area. Participants joined the Finisher’s Celebration via Zoom, which included a live-streamed ConnectiCare Gran Fondo Ceremony and a live virtual bingo game that gave participants the chance to win prizes.
The ConnectiCare Gran Fondo first launched four years ago to honor the life of local triathlete and former ConnectiCare employee, Gordon Keller, who lost his life in a biking accident.
“Creating healthier futures for our communities is our mission and a top priority. Hosting our annual Gran Fondo event is one of the ways we encourage people to get outside and be active,” said ConnectiCare President, Eric Galvin. “ConnectiCare is proud to support the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program’s mission to increase youth access to the health benefits of cycling.”
This year, the ConnectiCare Gran Fondo is part of the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program’s (CCAP) Triple Crown event series. In addition to hosting the Gran Fondo event, ConnectiCare was a sponsor of The Breakaway Benefit and Everybody Ride/Run Against Cancer Everyday. The three events make up the Triple Crown Charity Challenge.
