August 18 at 3 p.m. CREC will do a drive-thru model again this year, still allowing CREC to supply over 1200 backpacks full of school supplies to area children.
CREC Central Rear Parking Lot, Entrance at intersection of Nepaquash St. and Van Block Ave. Hartford, CT 06016. Media can park in the front lot at 111 Charter Oak Ave.
CREC will give away over 1,200 backpacks filled with school supplies to Hartford area children who are getting ready for the new school year.
Guests are invited to drive-thru and receive their backpacks. Masks or other face coverings are required for all in attendance, and children (ages 3-17) must be present.
Cars will line up at the corner of Charter Oak Avenue and Nepaquash Street. Along the Drive-Thru route before receiving their backpacks, guests can get resources and giveaways from CREC Adult Education and Career Counseling, CT Transit, United Way, CREC Transportation, the Hartford Region Open Choice Program, CREC Magnet Schools, and eeSmarts.
Building on the success of the past six years, the CREC Foundation has obtained extremely generous sponsorship from Owens Realty, the Simon Knonver Company, Global Atlantic Financial Group, Whitson’s Culinary Services, Travelers, the Ryan T. Lee Foundation, and Hot 93.7 FM.
Backpacks will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are only guaranteed to the first 1,200 children.
Members of the media are welcome to attend with masks/face coverings and following all social distancing protocols.
