Stamford CT.–This month, Food Rescue US and Connecticut Food Bank / Foodshare announced a new partnership after piloting a program between the two organizations. The partnership is a long-hoped-for goal for both organizations, but more importantly, a massive boon to the community both serve.

“With nearly half a million people in Connecticut struggling with food insecurity, community partnerships are crucial in the fight against hunger. Connecticut Food Bank / Foodshare is thrilled to collaborate with Food Rescue US to help collect surplus food for our neighbors in need,” said Jason Jakubowski, President & CEO of Connecticut Food Bank / Foodshare. “The pilot program successfully onboarded four new stores, and with the help of Food Rescue US, we have rescued 20,000 meals worth of food from those stores since early May,” said Jason.

In Connecticut, Feeding America estimated that food insecurity would increase by an alarming 14% in 2020 because of the pandemic, for a total of 490,000 people (1 in 7 people), including 131,000 children (1 in 6 children), across Connecticut who are at risk of hunger.

Food Rescue US – Fairfield County, worked closely with Gaye Sgamboti, Food Donation Manager at Connecticut Food Bank / Foodshare to incorporate Feeding America practices for Food Rescue US volunteers with the four new stores. “We are excited to now expand our partnership with Food Rescue US in Litchfield County and hope to add Hartford County in the coming months,” said Gaye.

“Food Rescue US is extremely pleased to partner with Connecticut Food Bank / Foodshare to deliver surplus food to our Connecticut neighbors who are food insecure. Hunger in Connecticut and America is unacceptable and partnerships such as this one with the food bank are critically important.” said CEO, Food Rescue US, Carol Shattuck.
