As of April 15, 80% of the $5,018 goal has been achieved through individual donations. HMF sent $4,000 to MakerspaceCT this week for the materials to produce approximately 500 face shields for distribution to healthcare professionals in the Hartford region. In appreciation for donations through HMF’s campaign, donors will each be mailed a commemorative magnet reading “Together, WeRunCT in support of Our Healthcare Heroes”.

“We were so inspired by the incredible community response to participate in the WeRunCT virtual challenge, we wanted to expand the positive initiative to benefit the urgent needs of the healthcare heroes in our own communities. We’re proud to support the local efforts of MakerspaceCT in producing PPE at their Hartford workshop,” said Beth Shluger, Hartford Marathon Foundation CEO and founder. “We also understand how important it is for us to provide our running community with encouragement to keep active and maintain a healthy outlet to help manage stress during this unprecedented time. While we can’t hold events and gather together, we’re committed to providing ways for people to experience some of the enjoyment of racing through virtual events and challenges, and we’ll continue to introduce new programs for people of all ages and abilities.”

MakerspaceCT, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is a community workshop and skills development center in Hartford, CT. HMF’s fundraising campaign will be open through Sunday, May 3, details on that and on the WeRunCT virtual challenge can be found at www.hartfordmarathon.com.
