The Bushnell Park Foundation announces a $15,000 gift from The Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. This generous donation will provide funding for the park’s tree maintenance, and the Tree Walk self-guided tours will now be named the Richard P. Garmany Tree Walk in Bushnell Park. This lead gift supports the Weidenmann Tree Society, named in honor of Jacob Weidenmann, the landscape architect who designed Bushnell Park. This new fund will be used for the preservation, protection, and maintenance of the Park’s green treescape. A formal three-year campaign for the Weidenmann Tree Society will be kicked off in 2021 to raise $250,000 which also includes a plan to plant 100 trees for the long-term protection of this urban oasis.

According to David Polk, advisor for the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, “Bushnell Park is one of Hartford’s greatest and most timeless resources. It deserves the support and appreciation of all of us in the greater Hartford community for its beauty, history, accessibility, and natural benefits. The Garmany Fund is proud to be a contributor in helping to make this happen.”
