NEW BRITAIN, CT – Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) has appointed Dr. William J. Pesce to serve as Interim Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Staff providing clinical leadership and oversight for the hospital’s inpatient and outpatient services.  Dr. Pesce has served as Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at HFSC for more than nine years and has practiced at the hospital since 1993.

 

“Our board of directors and his peers recognize Dr. Pesce as a highly skilled physician leader,” said Lynn Ricci, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer.  “His extensive experience with complex rehabilitation and his extraordinary dedication to our patients have been even more valuable to our care delivery system throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”

 

HFSC has operated at surge capacity throughout the pandemic, providing critically needed care for patients with complex medical needs, including patients recovering from COVID-19.  “Bill has been a key leader in designing and supporting the rehabilitation protocol for patients on our dedicated COVID-19 recovery unit,” said Ricci.  “His calm, confident approach has provided reassurance to patients and staff alike during these challenging times.”

Dr. Pesce, a Southington, CT resident, is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.  He specializes in the care and treatment of musculoskeletal and spinal disorders, spinal cord injury, pain and spasticity management, stroke rehabilitation and electrodiagnostic medicine.
