Urban League of Greater Hartford (ULGH) will bring job seekers and employers together at its 21st Annual Employment Empowerment Expo & Career Fair on Wednesday, May 12 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. This year, the free event will offer the option to attend virtually, or in-person at the Swift Factory on 10 Love Lane in Hartford’s North End. Advance registration is suggested.

“We want every job seeker – from entry-level to experienced professional – to feel empowered to obtain equitable, secure, gainful employment in their desired job or industry,” explains David Hopkins, President, and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Hartford, whose programs and operations impact more than 3,000 individuals and their families every year in the areas of youth development, adult education, workforce development, housing, health equity, and social justice.

“Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet one-on-one with the region’s leading employers, as well as with recruiters from universities and colleges,” says Yvonne Matthews, Workforce Manager for the Urban League of Greater Hartford. “A variety of workshops will be available, including employability skills training, entrepreneurship, and professional development. In fact, the Connecticut State Department of Labor’s American Job Center team will help with resume writing and critique, and will conduct mock interviews.”

Participating companies represent financial services, healthcare, technology, logistics, manufacturing, retail, hospitality, transportation, and other industries, with some conducting on-site hiring. Both in-person and online participants are highly encouraged to dress in professional business attire and have an updated resume ready to hand out or send via email, upon request.

The businesses represented at the Expo work with the Urban League of Greater Hartford throughout the year. Fed Ex is the 2021 event’s Title Sponsor and “Employment Partner of the Year”. Other participating employers include Accurate Personnel LLC, Barnes Group Inc., Black & Decker, Capital Region Education Council (CREC), Central Connecticut State University, Hartford Police Department, Hartford Fire Department, CTtransit, DATTCO, Delta Dental, FedEx, Hartford Yard Goats, LAZ Parking, Link Scooter by Superpedestrian, New England Flagger, Otis Elevator, Pratt & Whitney, Root Center for Advanced Recovery, United States Postal Service, University of Hartford, Walmart, and the Wheeler Family Health & Wellness Center.
