Hartford, Conn. – June 26, 2020 – The YMCA of Greater Hartford received a $10,000 Wells Fargo Foundation grant award to help sustain its staffing needs, business operations and long-term COVID-19 relief efforts for area residents.

“The YMCA of Greater Hartford remains committed to fulfilling its mission and providing COVID-19 support services,” said Harold Sparrow, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Hartford. “Thankfully, supporters such as the Wells Fargo Foundation have stepped forward so we can offer programming and activities during these challenging times.”

In response to the public health crisis, Connecticut for-profit and non-profit businesses, including the Greater Hartford YMCA, temporarily closed to adhere to statewide shelter-in-place ordinances. Now with the branches re-open, the organization, with the support of corporate funders such as the Wells Fargo Foundation, look forward to assisting hard-hit areas with key social services.

“The crisis has affected the lives and livelihood of people, especially vulnerable and underrepresented residents,” said Terence Floyd, Wells Fargo’s Connecticut Community Relations Vice President. “As the state reopens, organizations like the Y will play a vital role in restoring and strengthening our communities. We are proud to support the Greater Hartford Y’s life-changing mission.”
