The MetroHartford Alliance, an organization experiencing a positive organizational transformation is seeking a Chief Business Investment Officer, Economic Development reporting directly to the CEO. This newly created position will lead a small team of professionals & be responsible for the organizations overall Economic Development strategy and implementation. Areas of focus: Strategy/Planning: Design, implement, manage strategies and initiatives to increase jobs and capital investment in a group of target sectors. Design, implement, manage regionally-based research projects to drive and inform organization/ regional decision makers. Direct and manage the solicitation and management of grants related to regional business improvement strategies. Business Outreach/Relationship Management: Build and maintain broad-based, global coalition of individuals and organizational representatives, private and public sector to advance business development goals. Organize and oversee business outreach for regional businesses in target sectors for developing leads and collecting information on business competitiveness. Organize and oversee outreach to global businesses in the target sectors with potential interest in locating or expanding the region. Organizational Leadership: Raise the visibility of the organization by participating in presentations, panel discussions and discussion forums in selected regional, national, and international forums. Serve as a member of the executive team.
The ideal candidate must have 10 years of experience with demonstrated success in economic development and program management. Demonstrated ability to deal with C-level business leaders. Experience in developing and managing collaborative partnerships. A Postgraduate degree or equivalent and relevant expertise. Familiarity with economic and community development issues and/or civic agency operations and CEcD preferred. The ideal candidate must have the ability to develop project strategies and take appropriate action with little definition or direction. Excellent communications, (written and oral), problem-solving and project management skills.

Director of Research, Economic Development MetroHartford Alliance
The MetroHartford Alliance, an organization moving toward dynamic and positive organizational transformation is seeking a Director of Research, Economic Development reporting directly to the Chief Business Investment Officer, Economic Development of the entity. Responsibilities include: Identifying current and emerging issues related to MetroHartford Alliance programs and initiatives. Collecting data, conducting research and developing briefing materials on potential actions to address these issues. Conducting analysis and gathering data to identify causes of current and potential future issues and makes recommendations to decision-makers.
Coordinate with the Business Investment and the Marketing areas to develop business proposal documents. In addition, you will conduct briefings and deliver presentations to public and private officials as appropriate as well as oversee, evaluate, and maintain selected databases, subscriptions, electronic files, online resources, and paper documentation. You will oversee and maintain data sources used on the MetroHartford Alliance website. You will respond to staff, partner, and key constituency data/research inquiries and requests. Initiate communications with these parties as appropriate as well as balance multiple priorities, working independently or participating as a part of a cross-functional team, keeping others informed through clear written and verbal communication, while maintaining a high level of productivity. You will organize, manage and write RFI/RFP responses, regional “dashboard” metrics, as well as grant submissions on behalf of research and business investment initiatives. The position will also negotiate, manage, and coordinate outside research vendors to conduct specialized regionally-based research projects. You will interact with internal and external clients to develop research strategies and priorities to support organizational and regional goals and contribute to the efficiency of the organization by performing other duties and participating in special projects as assigned.
The ideal candidate must have 5- 10 years of progressively responsible relevant Economic Development experience coupled with an undergraduate degree in business, market research, library science or related field required. A Graduate degree strongly preferred. Familiarity with economic and community development issues, tax policy, business site location issues, economic modeling, local government structure, and/or civic agency operations preferred. Data mining and business analytics are also required. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, planning, problem solving, quantitative, and project management skills. Proficient in MS Office Suite and database software. GIS skills a plus.
