What defining characteristics make your organization unique?
What are you proudest of about your organization?

Hartford’s Camp Courant is the oldest and largest FREE summer program in the country, and is the only summer camp serving Hartford youth that provides transportation, preventive and acute health services, two nutritious meals a day, and recreational, educational and developmental activities all at no cost to the camper or his or her family.

We pride our organization on promoting youth development and healthy lifestyle choices through active learning and fun activities. However, we are most proud of our 122 years of service to generations of Hartford children.

What recent milestones or accomplishments have your organization achieved?
(E.g., projects completed, awards and recognitions)

We have recently completed a number of capital projects, including a larger, more practical, and ADA-compliant pool; a renovation of the pool house and changing areas; a new handicap accessible bathroom; a renovation of a classroom space; and the addition of another multi-use space. We look forward to installing a new playground with elements inclusive for all mobility levels for the 2017 season.

Why does your organization invest in the MetroHartford Alliance?
How does the Alliance’s work align with your goals, values and/or culture?

We see the Alliance as a great convener of organizations who are profoundly committed to the region. Because of the Alliance’s ability to ‘connect,’ Camp Courant has been fortunate enough to partner with many organizations who see the value in investing in the talent we have right here in Hartford. As an organization that focuses on positive youth development opportunities for Hartford’s youth, our core values directly align with those that are looking to engage and retain ‘top talent’ here in the region. We believe in investing in our young people, and many of the organizations we have had the pleasure of meeting, and have now partnered with as a result of our association with the Alliance, share those values. Hartford’s Camp Courant has profoundly increased its ability to achieve its mission of, ‘providing a free summer camp experience for Hartford youth that promotes positive youth development and healthy lifestyle choices,’ due to the Alliance’s ability to connect like-minded organizations for the betterment of this great region.

How has your company engaged with the Alliance over the past year or so?
(E.g., events attended, sponsorships, committee involvement)
Hartford’s Camp Courant has engaged with the Alliance on a variety of levels, from attending ‘Break the Ice’ luncheons and ‘Meet and Mingle’ sessions in an effort to meet organizations committed to the success of the region, to posing thoughtful questions and provocative commentary at “Rising Star Breakfasts’ or ‘Dialogue with the Delegation’ sessions. The Alliance offers something for everyone in our organization-our employees find equal value in attending a HYPE event as they do attending a strategic planning session. The Alliance has given us a platform to tell our story—a story that is 122 years old and always changing. For that, Hartford’s kids are incredibly grateful.
