As the Chief Financial Officer for CleanSlate Centers, a national medical group and leading provider of outpatient addiction treatment, I am privileged to be a part of our firm’s mission to expand access to effective treatment in some of the communities hit hardest by our nation’s opioid epidemic. As a Hartford area resident, I am thrilled by the recent opening of our first center in Connecticut, located at 85 Gillette Street in Hartford. But it’s also bittersweet, because we wouldn’t be here if there wasn’t a need.

Hartford, as you know, is a city in transition. Like other cities our size, we have experienced an enormous amount of political, economic and demographic changes over the last two decades. While much of our more recent evolution has been positive, it has not insulated us from the rampant opioid epidemic gripping communities just like ours across the country.

Healthcare costs from opioid abuse in Connecticut topped $290 million in 2016 alone. Connecticut residents are more likely to die from an accidental drug overdose than a motor vehicle accident. In fact, on average, two people in our state die from a drug overdose every day. That’s why, when legislators, regulators, and our health plan partners briefed us on the severity of the situation, we made immediate plans to open our 85 Gillette Street center – as well as several additional sites in the future – and expand access to the effective, outpatient treatment Hartford residents need.

We’re here to be a solution to the problem, to help patients achieve the lives they want and deserve, and in turn, bolster economic success across the city – but we can’t do it alone. We’re grateful for the incredible support from our existing partners and corporate friends, and we look forward to working with more of our colleagues in the MetroHartford Alliance to further each other’s missions and further strengthen our great city.

If you’re interested in learning more about how your organization could partner with CleanSlate, please feel free to reach out to me – I’d love to discuss the work we could do together. If you or someone you know needs help, call us at (413) 341-1787 or visit us at CleanSlateCenters.com.

I hope to see you at a MetroHartford Alliance event soon. Thanks for all you do for Hartford every day.
