Are You Ready to Get Hired?

Nov 21, 2019

Get Hired is the biggest insurance and financial services career fair in Connecticut. On Friday, January 3, 2020, Connecticut Insurance and Financial Services (CT IFS) will host the ninth annual event at the Hartford Marriot Downtown.

“Get Hired is an effective workforce retention strategy CT IFS hosts to ensure we keep our talent in the local market here in Connecticut,” explains CT IFS Executive Director Susan Winkler.

Job-seeking students gain confidence and learn about careers in the insurance and financial services industry firsthand. They’re also exposed to nationally and globally brands that are recognized as industry leaders.

Students who attend Get Hired develop professional relationships and discuss their skills and aspirations with Human Resources representatives and recruiters. These connections lead to potential callbacks to start the interview process for students to be placed in fulfilling internships or future jobs.

“The quality of student applicants far surpasses my expectations each year I attend,” says Gregory Roto, Vice President of Human Resources at Vantis Life Insurance Company. “It’s nice to have this wonderful resource stay in Connecticut!”

“Insurance carriers are invested in creating more welcoming, intuitive, and user-friendly environments with collaborative spaces,” explains Bouvier Insurance President Rob Bouvier.

“Insurance is kind of the ‘diamond in the rough’ in terms of career opportunities. And the opportunity has never been better,” he adds. Bouvier notes that that recent graduates are predisposed toward technology, and “when you integrate that into the insurance offering it makes for a more dynamic, robust experience.”

Matt Jadovich got a position as an underwriter at Symetra through connections he made at Get Hired. He knew the kind of company he wanted to work, he was aware of the options here in Connecticut, and he wanted to figure out what company was the right fit for him.

Matt found the Get Hired career fair “very welcoming” and emphasizes, “when you talk to the right people, that’s all that really matters.” At Get Hired, he was able to learn about the culture and the day-to-day role of an underwriter at Symetra. “It’s the kind of connection I don’t think I would have gotten without the career fair.”

He adds, “There’s nothing to lose by going to the career fair, you only stand to gain from talking to companies, getting your foot in the door, and getting your resume out there. It’s not that much time out of your day and it could make a huge difference in your career and your life.”

Get Hired 2020 student registration is now open. Learn more and register to attend.
