Hartford Public Library CEO and President Honored by HBJ

Hartford Public Library President and CEO Bridget Quinn-Carey was one of 15 womenhonored by the Hartford Business Journal with its 2020 Women in Business Award.The award recognizes outstanding women who are senior level executives, CEOs, and entrepreneurswho have mastered their industries.“I am proud to be recognized for my work in libraries and the non-profit sector, where the challenges ofleading an organization mirror those in the for-profit corporate sector. We may measure successdifferently, but have similar goals of strengthening our organizations and creating a positive impact forour customers, employees and the communities we serve,” Quinn-Carey said.The list of honorees, selected from over 100 reader nominations, was published in the April 6, 2020digital edition of the Hartford Business Journal. Prior tojoining HPL in 2016, Ms. Quinn-Carey served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officerand Interim President/CEO of the Queens Public Library, one of three independent public librarysystems in New York City. She also served as the Executive Director of the Buffalo and Erie CountyPublic Library system and has held leadership positions in libraries in New York, Iowa and Connecticut.Ms. Quinn-Carey earned her BA in English and Rhetoric from the State University of New York atBinghamton. She earned MLS and MBA degrees from St. John’s University. She is a member of theacademic honorsocieties Beta Gamma Sigma, Sigma Iota Epsilon, and Beta Phi Mu. She is a formermember and Chair of the New York State Regents Advisory Council on Libraries. She currently serves onthe Connecticut State Library’s Advisory Council for Library Planning and Development. She is amember of the American Library Association, Black Caucus of the American Library Association, PublicLibrary Association, Connecticut Library Association and New York Library Association. She is aCorporator for Hartford Hospital and a member of the Board of the Mark Twain House and Museum.
