Governor Dannel P. Malloy to Join MetroHartford Alliance & Hartford Business Journal in Recognizing Business Champions

May 29, 2012

Hartford, Conn. (May 30, 2012) – The MetroHartford Alliance, the Region’s economic development leader and the City’s Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Hartford Business Journal, will recognize the Region’s most innovative and successful privately-held companies at the Business Champions Breakfast, which will take place on June 7th from 7:00a.m.-9:00a.m. at the CT Convention Center in Hartford.  The event will celebrate the significant role that privately held businesses play in Connecticut’s economy and feature opening remarks from Governor Dannel P. Malloy.

“We are very pleased that the Governor will kick off our annual Business Champions Breakfast that celebrates the accomplishments of the Region’s privately held businesses,” Oz Griebel, President & CEO, MetroHartford Alliance, said. “Governor Malloy’s presence will underscore the prestige of being a Business Champions finalist and the importance of these businesses to our economy.”

The Business Champions Awards celebrate and recognize the achievements of privately-held businesses or a stand-alone division of a privately-held company and located in one of the 61 towns of Greater Hartford.  MetroHartford Alliance and Hartford Business Journal received an impressive 49 nominations for this year’s awards, among which were enterprising startups and small businesses with a long-standing history of innovation and workforce excellence.

“When Hartford has strong private sector businesses, the entire region benefits,” said Governor Dannel P. Malloy. “These businesses are key drivers of Connecticut’s job creation, and the more we can partner with them and give them opportunities to grow, the more robust our overall economic recovery will be.  I look forward to speaking at the breakfast so that area businesses know that state government can be an ally in their pursuit of growth and job creation.”
The State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s Small Business Express Program (SBEP) supports small business growth and retention through loans and grants.  This Program is a valuable resource for the small business community and one of many public and private initiatives that make Connecticut a great place to do business.
“We appreciate the Governor’s support of the Business Champions Breakfast and are excited he will be with us to kick off the day’s events,” Gail Lebert, Publisher, Hartford Business Journal, said.

Tickets for Business Champions are $60 for Alliance Investors, $65 for Future Alliance Investors and $550 for a table of ten.  To register, visit www.metrohartford.com
