“Over the past four years, several projects have been launched or completed that significantly enhance the economic and employment environment in Hartford, projects that also make the City more attractive for residents and visitors. These projects include enhanced residential services on Albany Avenue, continued redevelopment of Hartford’s Colt complex, the upcoming addition of 1,000 housing units in downtown, the renovation of the Phoenix plaza, the improvements around Bushnell Park from Union Station to Pulaski Circle, and the added entertainment and restaurant venues in the Front Street District. All of these initiatives have been further complemented and strengthened by UConn’s relocation of its West Hartford campus to downtown in 2017 and the improvements for the customer experience at the XL Center scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter.
The recently announced plan to construct a baseball stadium for the Eastern League’s New Britain Rock Cats, properly financed and marketed, has the potential to add to this inventory of assets. As part of the approval process, the City Council has scheduled a public hearing for July 21st. Over the next several weeks, the Alliance, along with other organizations and individuals, looks forward to learning more of the financial and marketing facts and assumptions underlying the proposal as well as the implications for other City capital projects, the New Britain stadium, and sustaining a regional framework for economic and employment growth.”
