Entrepreneurial Spirit the Focus of 2014 Startup Weekend Hartford
Registration now open for event on Sept. 26-28
Hartford, Conn. (September 2, 2014) – Registration is now open for the 2014 Startup Weekend Hartford, which takes place September 26-28 at the historic CL&P Northeast Utilities Building, located at 410 Sheldon Street in Hartford.
Startup Weekend is an intense 54-hour event that convenes local developers, graphic designers, marketing professionals, product/business managers and startup enthusiasts to build viable business plans around entrepreneurial ventures. This year’s Startup Weekend Hartford will focus on education, encouraging participants to harness their entrepreneurial spirit to brainstorm creative and feasible business ventures with an educational theme.
“It is vital that we support young entrepreneurs learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures – they are the core of our community and contribute to our region’s economic growth and development,” said John Shemo, vice president and director of economic development for the MetroHartford Alliance. “We’re excited to see what this year’s participants will pitch and how they envision their business plans will enhance education.”
Startup Weekend begins with participants pitching their startup ideas - designed to solve problems in the education space - and receiving feedback from peers. The larger group then forms teams around the top ideas. Over the course of the subsequent 54 hours, each team focuses its energies on creating a business model and on coding, designing and obtaining market validation. The weekend culminates with presentations in front of entrepreneurial leaders whom offer constructive feedback.
Registration is $99/ticket. A discount rate of $25/ticket is available to college students. Meals and refreshments will be provided.
