10. Hartford Performs and Hartford Public Schools Featured in The New York Times

A January 9 feature article in The New York Times profiled Hartford Performs and its success enriching the academic skills of students in the Hartford Public Schools. According to the story, Hartford Performs brings 140 visiting artists into the Hartford Public Schools, where they work with 13,600 students from prekindergarten through eighth grade. The program uses dance, theater, the visual arts and music to teach academic subjects; it also trains teachers to integrate the arts into their lesson plans and funds student trips to see and hear the arts in action. 9. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Central Connecticut Wraps Up a Banner Year with Donations for Veterans

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Central Connecticut ended 2015 strong, completing more than 1,200 moves, doubling its fleet of professional moving trucks from three to six, opening a new location in Avon and increasing staff to 25. In addition, the business provided dozens of free and discounted moves to Connecticut nonprofit organizations, and it collected and delivered furniture donations and other needed items for veterans as part of the company's Movers for Military campaign. 8. Camp Courant Receives $160,000 Grant from LEGO® Community Fund U.S.

Hartford's Camp Courant has received a $160,000 grant from LEGO Community Fund U.S. to help renovate its Early Learning Center, convert a staff break room into classroom space and cover programmatic costs in 2016. The investment in additional classroom space is part of a larger facilities upgrade that will greatly expand the camp's ability to offer active learning opportunities to campers, including not only Early Learning but also Financial Literacy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and Healthy Choices. 7. 'DID YOU KNOW?' Connecticut Health Council Launches Awareness Campaign

The Connecticut Health Council has launched a 'Did You Know' campaign designed to raise awareness of the importance of the health sector as an economic and employment driver in the State. The campaign officially began last Wednesday with the installation of a series of posters at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford to share key industry facts with state legislators and staff. It also includes print, broadcast and digital marketing, social media alerts and thought leadership content to be published during first quarter 2016 and beyond. 6. CHR Celebrates 50th Birthday; Sponsorships and Tickets Available for May 7 Gala

Founded in 1966 as a small counseling center in Enfield, CHR today offers more than 80 programs in locations throughout eastern and central Connecticut, with flagship outpatient offices in Enfield and Manchester. It operates the largest behavioral health home in the state and provided care for more than 20,000 individuals last year. CHR will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a gala celebration on May 7 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Gershon Fox Ballroom in Hartford. 3. Alliance Board Chair Bonnie Malley Nominated as City of Hartford's Chief Operating Officer

Bonnie Malley, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Phoenix Companies, Inc., and Chair of the Alliance's Board of Directors, has accepted Mayor Luke Bronin's nomination to become the Chief Operating Officer for the City of Hartford upon the approval of her nomination by the City Council and the completion of the company's previously announced merger with Nassau Reinsurance Group Holdings L.P. Alliance President and CEO Oz Griebel stated that Bonnie will bring her enthusiasm, her passion for the City and the Region, and her significant management expertise to the Bronin team and will make significant contributions to driving the economic and employment growth of the City over the next four years.

Nearly 450 people attended Tuesday's Rising Star Breakfast at Infinity Music Hall & Bistro with Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin. In his keynote address, Mayor Bronin discussed the opportunities and challenges facing our Capital City, how business can help, and the importance of a regional approach. Susan B. Dunn, President and CEO of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, received the Rising Star Award for her contributions to the Greater Hartford community.
