Mission Accomplished at DC Forum as Council Gears up for 2017

Hartford, Conn.  (September 21, 2016) — Strengthening the Connecticut Health Council’s efforts to sustain the collaboration among health sector leaders while driving its agenda for 2017 were the goals of the 2016 DC Forum held last week in the nation’s capital. Mission accomplished.

The inaugural Forum was held at historic Union Station with health care leaders from various businesses and organizations throughout Connecticut, along with members of the State’s congressional delegation, whom attended panel discussions and networking sessions highlighting issues including the role of technology in health care, the impact of this year’s presidential and congressional elections on health care policy and the disruption in innovation in hospitals. Speakers included leaders from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and American Hospital Association, and expert panelists in the health care field.

“As a Founding Partner of the Connecticut Health Council, Connecticut Children’s believes strongly that our competitive advantage in driving employment growth and capital investment in the State’s health sector lies in the ever-expanding collaboration among our significant asset base in this dynamic component of the country’s economy,” says Jim Shmerling, DHA, FACHE, President and CEO, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Forum sponsor. “The Forum provided us with an exceptional opportunity to showcase that collaboration to our Congressional delegation and other federal partners as we learn how to exploit that advantage with ever greater force and efficacy.”

Added Council Executive Director Amy Cunningham, “This was a tremendous opportunity to bring our health care leaders together to discuss a variety of topics important to the work they do on a daily basis and create a foundation for our work in 2017. We can only achieve our goal of driving economic growth if we collaborate, and that is what was represented throughout the DC Forum.”

The 2016 DC Forum is yet another example of a program driving overall economic growth in the State. Programs like the Jackson Laboratory’s “Forum on Healthcare Innovation” in October and the Connecticut Insurance and Financial Services’ “Insurance Market Summit” in November highlight Connecticut’s economic growth and the collaboration amongst our business leaders and experts.

Sponsors for the DC Forum included:

  • CT Children’s Medical Center, Presenting Sponsor;
  • Yale New Haven Health, Reception Sponsor; and
  • HarvardPilgrim HealthCare, CareCentrix and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut, Forum Sponsors
