2nd Annual Insurance Capital Walk in Hartford Draws 300+ Participants



More than 300 professionals from area insurance and financial services companies enjoyed perfect weather on the trail of the 2nd Annual Insurance Capital Walk, held September 22.  The 2.5 mile tour of Hartford highlights many of the iconic insurance companies that put the city on the map as the Insurance Capital.  The inaugural ‘Insurance Capital Walk,’ held September 2015, built off of previous employee giving campaigns of the Connecticut Insurance Department and tied into the agency’s 150th anniversary of the Office of the Insurance Commissioner that year.  In 2016, the event encouraged broader planning partnership and focused the Walk on energizing area organizations and employees to enjoy beautiful, walkable Hartford in celebration of industry, community, health and wellness.

The Walk kicked-off in Constitution Plaza, backlit with vibrant company spirit manifest in brilliantly colored t-shirts, visors and other branded gear.  Insurance Commissioner Katharine Wade, City of Hartford Chief Operating Officer Bonnie Malley and CT IFS Executive Director Susan Winkler provided a brief welcome before participants launched into the route through downtown Hartford and into Asylum Hill.  Ten of Hartford's dynamic insurance employers were highlighted; these organizations employ many of Connecticut’s more than 110,000 IFS professionals.  The 2016 Insurance Capital Walk was open to all who wished to participate, and many organizations – located beyond the city or even with expertise outside of insurance – gathered for the event.

The Insurance Capital Walk is a joint effort of Connecticut Insurance and Financial Services (CT IFS), Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Insurance Department, Hartford Business Improvement District and The iQuilt Partnership.  The planning partners extend special thanks to JLL for facilities support at Constitution Plaza, and to the Ambassadors of the Hartford Business Improvement District for keeping the energetic group coordinated at major crossings.
