Mayoral and City Council Elections Update: Alliance Position on Downtown North Development
While the Alliance applauds the administration for its work in development of a vacant parcel in Downtown Hartford for a Minor League Baseball stadium, our support is contingent on DoNo Hartford LLC’s ability to move forward in construction of all parcels. It is vital for the City’s administration to work with DoNo Hartford LLC to move all facets of the project forward.

On July 7, the Alliance issued a letter to Governor Malloy and State legislators acknowledging their work on the FY’16-FY’17 State budget. Mayoral and City Council Elections Update: Alliance Position on Hartford Property Tax and Grand List Growth
The administration must focus on the City’s property tax system in order to encourage private sector development and bolster Grand List growth. We firmly believe that we must work together to move steadily toward a property tax structure that mirrors the rest of the State and thereby achieves a fair and competitive mill rate for all property owners and residents.

ADVOCACY ALERT: Alliance Urges Governor Malloy to Veto Budget
The Alliance sent a letter to Governor Malloy on June 12 requesting that he veto the budget passed by the Legislature on June 3. While we appreciate the significant improvements proposed by the Governor in his subsequent press conference, we remain concerned about the absence of a well-defined spending cap and meaningful structural reforms. We must achieve these fundamental objectives sooner rather than later in order to secure the fiscal foundation necessary for private sector job retention and growth.

ADVOCACY ALERT: MetroHartford Alliance Statement on the Connecticut State Budget
We recognize the challenge that Governor Malloy and the Legislature faced this session in crafting a balanced budget that supports job retention and expansion as well personal income growth. Unfortunately, the budget adopted yesterday contains more tax increases and increased spending, both of which serve to undermine the confidence of the private sector to expand employment and to invest capital in Connecticut. As importantly, the budget fails to adopt any structural reforms that the Alliance and others have advocated as necessary to sustain a dynamic economy. We will review these issues and our continuing efforts to strengthen Connecticut as an aggressive and successful competitor for jobs, capital and talent at our next Public Policy Forum scheduled for June 17. Event details will be announced soon.
