Comcast recently announced a partnership with the University of Connecticut, home to the nation’s foremost center on hardware security, to establish the Center of Excellence for Security Innovation (CSI) at UConn. The center unites the expertise of researchers within UConn’s existing Center for Hardware Assurance, Security and Engineering (CHASE
) and Comcast’s leadership in Internet systems security to develop robust detection systems and analytical tools to ensure that the computer chips and other hardware components vital to Internet broadband systems are shielded from malicious attacks, unauthorized access, and faulty or counterfeit products.
Comcast also recently increased the speeds of two of its Xfinity Internet tiers in Connecticut, at no additional cost to customers. The increase marks the 13th time in the past 12 years that Comcast has increased its speeds. The Xfinity Internet Blast tier now offers speeds of up to 105 Mbps (formerly 50 Mbps), and the Xfinity Extreme 105 tier offers speeds up to 150 Mbps (formerly 105 Mbps). This is the second time in two years that Comcast has doubled its Blast tier. Customers need to re-start their modems to enjoy the new speeds.
The company also reached a significant milestone in its Xfinity WiFi network by surpassing one million Wi-Fi hotspots across the nation, with 300,000 of those in New England and over 60,000 in Connecticut. Additionally, Comcast announced that the network will reach eight million hotspots nationwide by the end of this year. Customers can download the Xfinity WiFi App on both iOS and Android devices to easily locate business and outdoor hotspots, or they can utilize the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi
And lastly, Comcast just celebrated the 13th Comcast Cares Day, the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort. On April 26th, over 80,000 volunteers donated their time at more than 800 projects around the globe during this annual company-wide day of service. In Connecticut, approximately 650 employees rolled up their sleeves alongside friends, family and community partners to paint, landscape, and perform other clean-up projects at eleven community sites across the state, including the Valley Shore YMCA in Westbrook, the East Hartford YMCA/Larson Community Center, Quinnipiac Elementary School in New Haven, the Seymour Boys & Girls Club, Middlesex YMCA / Camp Ingersoll in Portland, New Covenant House of Hospitality in Stamford and Lincoln Elementary School in New Britain, to name a few. How does your company engage with the Alliance?
Comcast engages with the Alliance in a variety of ways. The Comcast Business Enterprise team utilizes the Comcast strategic partnership with Metro Hartford Alliance as a way of staying connected with other strategic partners to form business relationships and opportunities. The relationship is also utilized for education and legislative updates and Economic Development opportunities in the Hartford region. Additionally, Comcast’s Community Investment team taps into the Alliance’s knowledge and community connections to identify potential nonprofit partners that could benefit from Comcast Foundation grants, support or volunteer efforts during Comcast Cares Day.
