Charles H. Kaman Charitable Foundation Funds Baby Grand Jazz

The Charles H. Kaman Charitable Foundation has awarded Hartford Public Library a three-year, $70,000 grant, to continue the popular Baby Grand Jazz series. Kaman has been a sponsor of the Sunday afternoon series since 2015.

The new grant will carry Baby Grand Jazz through its 17th season in 2020.

The upcoming season will begin January 7, 2018, opening in the Atrium in the Downtown Library. The following 14 concerts will be in the Center for Contemporary Culture, where the series attracted a record 5,900 attendees in 2017. The closing concert will go back to the Atrium on April 29, where musicians can play a Steinway Baby Grand piano, donated by the University of Connecticut.

The Library is creating an online exhibition of digital images, video recordings, and oral histories with some of Hartford’s best-loved jazz performers. The lineup for 2018 is yet to be announced.
