Yard Goats Open Aetna Community Center at Dunkin’ Donuts Park
The Hartford Yard Goats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, held a ribbon cutting ceremony today at Dunkin’ Donuts Park to unveil the Aetna Community Center, which will serve local youths and Greater Hartford area organizations. The Aetna Community Center is located at Dunkin’ Donuts Park on the corner of Main and Pleasant Streets. Several community and youth programs have already been established by the Yard Goats and will begin this fall.
“We are extremely proud to open the Aetna Community Center at Dunkin’ Donuts Park,” Yard Goats owner Josh Solomon said. “It will serve as a center for the advancement and development of our youth, and also the face of our long-term commitment to the City of Hartford.”
Some of the programs that are set to take place in the Aetna Community Center are the Hartford Yard Goats Youth Ambassador Program (HYGYAP) in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford. The program is designed for Hartford youth ages 14-17 who have an interest in leadership training. The HYGYAP will include an introduction to career opportunities in professional sports (MiLB), a six-week internship and a college tour.
The Yard Goats will also have a Youth Culinary Arts Program which will allow middle school age students to learn safety skills in the kitchen. The participants of this program will have the opportunity to create “Firehouse” cuisine and also sell food items at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. In addition to the community programs, the Yard Goats will be putting together a Hartford Yard Goats Dance Team, in partnership with a local Hartford dance studio. The participants from various communities will have the opportunity to learn dance routines and perform on the field throughout the season.
The Yard Goats continue their homestand tonight with a game against the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate) at 7:05 PM. Fans can purchase tickets for the remaining games this season or 2018 Yard Goats season tickets by calling 860-246-GOAT (4628), by visiting online at www.yardgoatsbaseball.com, or in person at the Click It or Ticket Box Office at Dunkin’ Donuts Park.
