University of Saint Joseph’s Women’s Leadership Center Hosts Event about Importance of Women Leaders in Public Service

Panel Features Active Community Leaders, Including Mae Maloney, Thea Montañez and Mayors Shari Cantor and Marcia Leclerc

The Women’s Leadership Center at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) announces its third public panel discussion, Engaging Women in Our Community, on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at USJ’s Crystal Room located in Mercy Hall, 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford.

“The Women’s Leadership Center continues its role as a vital resource for women to learn how to prepare themselves for leadership roles in their field,” said Rhona Free, Ph.D., president of USJ.  “Our stellar panelists on Sept. 23 bring an incredible mix of talent, experience, and success to our campus, and will be more than happy to interact with the audience.”

Tickets for the event are $15 for adults and $5 for college students with valid ID.  A networking lunch is included in the cost.

Engaging Women in Our Community includes active community leaders who will share their experiences and respond to questions during interactive panel discussions. Topics and panelists include the following:

Appointed Municipal and Non-Profit Leaders

How to become a candidate for a leadership position at a non-profit or government commission, with:

  • Mae Maloney, program director, Leadership Greater Hartford
  • Thea Montañez, mayoral chief of staff, Hartford, Conn.
  • Alice Reitz, CEO and Financial Advisor, The Reitz Group; Community and Outreach Liaison, American Association of University Women (AAUW)

Elected Municipal Leaders

Considering a run for local office? What to expect as a candidate for a local elected position, with:
