Webster Bank VP receives Malcolm Baldrige Volunteer Award

Webster Bank is pleased to announce that James Higgins, vice president and manager of its banking center on Bank Street in Waterbury, received the 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award at the 23rd annual Malcolm Baldrige Awards dinner Tuesday in Southington.

The award is named after the former head of Waterbury’s Scovill Manufacturing Co. and Naugatuck’s The Eastern Co., and the former commerce secretary under President Ronald Reagan. It is one of the three top awards presented annually by the Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Higgins, who joined Webster two years ago, is the current secretary of the chamber’s Young Professionals Organization (YPOWR), and the co-founder and chairman of both YPOWR’s Business Connection Group and the chamber’s Business Connection Group.

He is a chamber ambassador who assists in membership retention and development, and the treasurer of the Exchange Club of Waterbury. He also serves on the boards of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Waterbury and Main Street Waterbury, and on Waterbury’s Finance and Audit Review Commission.

He also teaches business at Post University in Waterbury, and is an active mentor at Children’s Community School in Waterbury.

Higgins, a Naugatuck resident, earned both a B.S. degree in entrepreneurship, leadership and management and an MBA from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven.

Webster Bank is a leading regional bank living up to consumers, businesses and the community since 1935.
