WHAT: Hartford Public Library’s annual Beyond Words Fundraiser will feature acclaimed author Jacqueline Woodson as the keynote speaker. Woodson is one of the most dynamic and popular writers in America today, particularly among young audiences. She won the 2014 National Book Award Winner for her New York Times bestselling memoir, Brown Girl Dreaming. The memoir also won a Newbery Honor, the Coretta Scott King Award, the NAACP Image Award and a Sibert Honor. Her most recent novel, Another Brooklyn, was a finalist for the 2016 National Book Award. In addition, Sandra Bender Fromson and Howard Fromson, longtime HPL corporators, will be honored at the event with the 2018 Caroline M. Hewins Medal for their public service to the library and the greater Hartford community.
Poet Kate Rushin will recite an original piece she wrote for the library’s 125th anniversary.
