SLAM Platinum Honoree in Healthy Workplace Employer Recognition Program

The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) was recognized by The Business Council of Fairfield County at the Healthy Workplace Employer Recognition Program in the Platinum category.  This year the Council honored 57 companies for their wellness achievements by four categories of distinction - Platinum, Gold, Silver and Innovation - awarded on the basis of program components and outcomes. SLAM accepted the honor on Thurs., Feb. 14 at the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa.

“These employers know the positive impact that creating a culture of health and wellness can have in and out of the workplace,” said Anthony Aguanno, UnitedHealthcare senior account executive and co-chair of The Business Council’s Health, Wellbeing and Safety Roundtable. “What makes these honorees stand out is how they collaborate with and support their employees to make their programs successful, and their employees and their families healthier.”

The Healthy Workplace Employer Recognition Program was established 11 years ago to highlight the efforts of employers who understand the competitive advantage of a healthy workforce. The recognition program is presented by The Business Council’s Health, Wellbeing and Safety Roundtable, with the leadership support of USI Insurance Services and UnitedHealthcare of CT, Inc. and generous assistance from ConnectiCare and Aon.

From encouraging physical activity and healthy behavior to managing chronic illness, SLAM’s Wellness Program launched in 1994 and has evolved into a comprehensive initiative that includes wellness seminars, activities, insurance incentives, ergonomic evaluations, screenings, and dissemination of healthy life-style information.

“Our program began as an effort to switch donuts to bagels on casual Friday, and today is part of our culture and leadership’s vision to ensure employees are given every opportunity to make healthy choices, measure their success and continuously make improvements that will lead them to healthier lifestyles both in and outside of the workplace,” says Tracy Herzer, IIDA, NCIDQ, WELL AP, Interior Designer and Health Promotion Coordinator, SLAM.

In November 2018, SLAM was selected as one of the Hartford Business Journal’s Connecticut’s Healthiest Employers, securing second place in the 151-400 division.
