SOCKSTARZ plans its largest public launch at

the YWCA In the Company Of Women Luncheon

Hartford, CT — April 15, 2019 —        Harc, Inc., an agency with a rich heritage of helping people with intellectual disabilities live with quality, dignity and inclusion is proud to partner with the YWCA of the Hartford Region for our largest public launch of SockStarz, a novelty and luxury sock company that will provide meaningful work opportunities for people with disabilities.   Started with the generous support of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, SockStarz will be featured in the Persimmon Partners sales space at the YWCA’s In The Company of Women Luncheon on April 17, 2019, at the Connecticut Convention Center, starting at 11:00 a.m.  The SockStarz sales space will offer over 400 varieties of socks, including our unique ArtSparks line, with proceeds supporting employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

“Work gives our lives meaning and purpose and creates a sense of belonging and identity in society”, said Andrea Barton Reeves, Harc’s President and CEO. “But only nineteen percent of people with intellectual disabilities who want to work can find a job.”  Reeves continued, saying “ SockStarz provides job opportunities for our clients that are reliable, predictable and pay a competitive wage, and over time, will decrease our dependency on government funding.”

SockStarz is made even more unique by our ArtSparks sock line, socks that feature original, one of kind art created by our Harc artists.  “The ArtSparks socks are completely unique in the marketplace and provides an almost endless supply of one of a kind designs for socks and for other products (bowties, scarves, ties) as our business grows.”, said Diana Appleton, founder of the ArtSparks program and a Harc parent.

People looking forward to seeing the SockStarz team in action can stop by our sales space at the 24th Annual luncheon.  “This platform is the perfect premiere appearance for SockStarz,” said Adrienne Cochran, CEO of the YWCA of the Hartford Region.  “This event celebrates diversity, inclusion and empowerment. We are pleased to partner with Harc and share this moment with them.”
