Chrysalis Center’s Expands New Social Enterprise Initiatives Creating More Job Skills and Employment Opportunities for Individuals in the Community
Hartford Foundation Announces Matching Gift Program
Hartford, CT – Chrysalis Center is excited to announce its new Social Enterprise initiatives which will help the organization expand its mission to provide supportive services to assist people in need to transform their lives.
As one of the State’s leading organizations serving Connecticut’s people living with mental illness and returning from homeless populations, Chrysalis Center understands that by developing and offering employment and training services it can provide individuals the opportunity to become employed, self-sufficient and independent. All of Chrysalis Center’s clients live at or below the poverty line. Chrysalis is working hard to help solve the problem of poverty through employment training.
Through La Cocina Culinary Arts Training program, the TCC (Training & Conference Center), and its full-service catering operation, Chrysalis Center has successfully developed job training skills for individuals, as well as offering event space and an array of culinary services to the public. These programs have already resulted in generating revenue to help support Chrysalis Center’s mission.
La Cocina's Culinary Arts Training Program Expansion and Offsite Catering
Earlier this year, Chrysalis Center was selected as a finalist in the Social Enterprise Accelerator, an initiative from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving’s (HFPG) Nonprofit Support Program, designed to help nonprofit organizations expand beyond traditional funding sources to create new sources of revenue.
As one of 49 organizations initially involved with the program, Chrysalis Center was selected as one of ten non-profits to complete the initiative. Through consultation and coaching with the HFPG and in partnership with “No Margin, No Mission”, a national consulting firm dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations increase their earned income and entrepreneurial capacity, Chrysalis Center created a business plan and will now be able to expand its programs.
Chrysalis Center’s La Cocina Culinary Arts Training Program serves as a job readiness program for individuals in the community to help them become employed. The program provides clients with extensive wrap-around services and support under the instruction of a five-star chef and case manager. Clients are high-risk young adults and adults living in the community with major barriers such as mental health diagnosis, educational limitations, addictions and/or criminal records which may otherwise prevent them from obtaining gainful employment.
Chrysalis Center’s La Cocina Catering is a licensed on-site and off-site caterer, which offers a diverse menu and a variety of food options, with a socially conscious mission. All funds generated through the catering program and through rental of the organization’s TCC, helps further the organization’s mission.
Funding Goal and Hartford Foundation’s Matching Gift
Chrysalis Center has invited the community to help transform more lives by investing in its initiatives. With a goal is to raise $100,000 by end of summer, individuals, community groups, foundations and corporations are invited to consider making an investment to help fund expand the organization’s programs.
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving recently announced they will match dollar for dollar of contributions made up to $40,000, to help the nonprofit reach their financial goal. Donations must be received by September 13, 2019 for Chrysalis Center to receive the matching funds.
