The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and the City of Hartford sponsored free community day at Dillon Stadium has been rescheduled from Wednesday, August 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to Thursday, August 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. due to the threat of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday.
The celebration is an example of the broad community use that’s envisioned for the venue as a result of an agreement the Hartford Foundation made in return for its commitment of $1.2 million for the turf field. The Foundation committed the funds to ensure Dillon Stadium is available to everyone in the community including schools, neighborhood organizations, youth sports leagues and area nonprofits that serve local residents. These groups now have access to the facility 131 days each year, and a fund has been established for organizations to apply for support to cover the costs associated with the use of the stadium.
The City and the Foundation are inviting community members from across Hartford to bring their families to Dillon to enjoy free food, back-to-school giveaways, youth athletic clinics on the field, and music, as well as receive information about local nonprofit organizations and fall youth programs available to Hartford families. Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin and Hartford Foundation President Jay Williams will offer brief remarks to highlight the exciting opportunities for residents to use this historic community asset.
