Fighting Food Insecurity: House of Hope Ribbon-Cutting to Kick Off 15th Annual Food Drive

The House of Hope aims to help reduce hunger throughout the Greater Bridgeport area by addressing food insecurity.

St. Vincent’s Medical Center, a part of the Hartford HealthCare network, and Aquarion Water Company are launching the 15th Annual House of Hope Food Drive with a blessing and ribbon cutting ceremony. Running until November 17, 2025, the House of Hope aims to help reduce hunger throughout the Greater Bridgeport area by addressing food insecurity. In an effort to fight hunger with healthy foods, the organizers ask specifically for donations of nutritious, non-perishable, non-expired items. Suggestions for healthier food donations are listed on the back of all flyers supporting the drive. This year’s tri-chairs are George Logan from Aquarion, and Ann Gorton & Lauren Davidson from St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Background

For the past 15 years, the House of Hope Food Drive has been instrumental in providing food to local pantries that support Greater Bridgeport communities. Our goal is to collect a minimum of 10 tons of food through the donation of food items and monetary donations alike.

This year, more families and individuals are experiencing food insecurity. The increasing price of groceries, and the decreasing supply of food available to pantries plus the high cost of living in our area have created a challenging situation for families who have not needed assistance in the past.
