Capital Foundation Welcomes Author Jaquira Díaz for Hispanic Heritage Month

Some books stay with you. Ordinary Girls is one of them, and this fall the Capital Foundation brings its award-winning author to Hartford.

Jaquira Díaz will deliver the Herencias Latinas keynote on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 5–7 p.m. at the Wadsworth in Hartford. Named one of the year's must-read books by O, The Oprah Magazine and Time, Díaz's acclaimed memoir explores her childhood and coming of age between Puerto Rico and Miami Beach, reflecting on identity, family, culture and belonging with warmth, humor and remarkable honesty.

With nearly half of Hartford's residents identifying as Hispanic or Latino, Herencias Latinas offers an opportunity to celebrate the richness and diversity of the city's Latino community while hearing from a nationally recognized author whose work explores many of the universal and deeply personal questions of identity and belonging.

The evening begins with a reception at 5 p.m. in the Wadsworth's Avery Court, followed by the keynote at 6 p.m. in the museum's theater. The event is free and open to the public on a space-available basis. RSVP at https://bit.ly/hljdiaz
