Connecticut Science Center Installs HSB Sensor Technology to Strengthen Facility Protection

Donated Meshify Slim devices provide early warning of water leak and freeze issues

Hartford, CT (June 16, 2026) – The Connecticut Science Center has installed innovative water and freeze sensor technology donated by HSB to strengthen facility protection and reduce the risk of future disruptions caused by water leaks and freezing conditions.

The installation follows a spring 2026 water leak that forced the Science Center to close temporarily for several days. HSB’s Meshify Slim™ sensor devices have been placed in key locations throughout the iconic riverfront facility to provide early warning of potential leaks, freezing conditions, and temperature changes that could threaten building operations.

The compact devices are designed for real-time monitoring of locations where water risks may otherwise go undetected, including narrow or hard-to-reach spaces. By providing early alerts to facility staff, the technology is intended to support faster response and help prevent small issues from becoming major operational interruptions.

“The Connecticut Science Center showcases the power of science and technology to improve lives and solve real-world problems,” said Matt Fleury, President and CEO of the Connecticut Science Center. “HSB’s Meshify Slim sensor technology is a strong example of how Connecticut’s innovative companies are developing practical solutions that benefit society in meaningful ways. By donating this technology to help protect this facility, HSB is helping tell that story while also strengthening the resilience of a place that serves families, students, and educators across the state.”

The Science Center welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and serves as a major destination for school groups, families, camps, community events, and STEM learning. Protecting the facility from avoidable interruptions is critical to maintaining public access and preserving the exhibits, classrooms, theaters, and operating systems that support the visitor experience.

HSB’s Meshify Slim is its smallest water and freeze sensor, developed to help detect leaks, freezes, and temperature changes that can lead to costly damage. The donation reflects HSB’s broader focus on using sensor technology and risk-management solutions to help organizations identify problems earlier and respond more effectively.

“HSB is proud to support the Connecticut Science Center and its work to inspire future STEM innovators,” said Jeff O’Shaughnessy, HSB President and CEO. “By donating Meshify Slim sensors, we are helping protect an important community resource while demonstrating how practical technology can reduce risk, improve resilience, and safeguard the places where learning happens.”

The sensor installation builds on a longstanding partnership between HSB and the Connecticut Science Center. HSB has supported the Center’s mission to inspire lifelong learning through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, including through the Science Center of the Future Campaign.

As part of that broader partnership, HSB is also helping advance plans for a future manufacturing exhibition that will engage visitors in hands-on exploration of modern industry, engineering, innovation, and real-world applications of science and technology.
