Hartford HealthCare and the American Red Cross Help Keep Our Community Safe- One Smoke Alarm at a Time

In recognition of the National Day of Service and Remembrance, Hartford HealthCare, the American Red Cross in Connecticut, and the Hartford Fire Department teamed up to help protect local families with new smoke alarms.

Dr. Cynthia Price, MD, Department of Emergency Medicine at Hartford Hospital discussed the importance of fire safety and smoke detectors along with emergency treatments for fire related injuries.

Today, volunteers headed into Hartford neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms and provide essential fire safety education. The initiative is part of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, a national effort to reduce home fire deaths and injuries — the most common disaster Americans face.

During the event, volunteers not only installed smoke alarms but also help families create personalized escape plans and share lifesaving safety tips. It’s a hands-on way to make homes safer — and lives more secure.

Since the launch of the campaign, more than 6,500 smoke alarms have already been installed in Hartford alone, making a measurable difference in local emergency preparedness.
