Hartford Public Library’s Digital Library Lab Partners with City of Hartford on Major Document Digitization Project

[HARTFORD, CT - MARCH 2, 2026] — The Digital Library Lab at Hartford Public Library (DLL@HPL) announced that it has added the City of Hartford as its newest client, launching an extensive document digitization project that will preserve and modernize access to important municipal records.

Through this partnership, the DLL@HPL will provide professional digitization services to convert physical documents into secure, searchable digital files. The project will support the City of Hartford’s efforts to improve record preservation, operational efficiency, and public access to critical information, while ensuring materials are handled locally and with care.

“This partnership reflects the power of leveraging trusted community institutions to meet real operational needs,” said Bridget E. Quinn, Hartford Public Library’s President and CEO. “The Digital Library Lab was created to help organizations preserve knowledge, improve access, and work more efficiently. We’re proud to support the City of Hartford in safeguarding important records while demonstrating the value of locally managed, high-quality digitization services.”

Launched in 2019, the DLL@HPL is a social enterprise of Hartford Public Library that emerged from the Library’s participation in the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation’s Social Enterprise Accelerator. Since its launch, it has served nonprofits, businesses, government agencies, educators, and entrepreneurs by providing professional-grade digital services while generating earned revenue that supports HPL’s mission and community programs.

The City selected the DLL@HPL for its combination of technical expertise, secure workflows, and commitment to serving the public good. The project will digitize a significant volume of documents, creating long-term benefits for city departments and residents alike.

A spokesperson from the Mayor’s Office emphasized the importance of the collaboration, stating, “Modernizing how the City manages and preserves records is essential to transparency, efficiency, and service delivery. Partnering with Hartford Public Library’s Digital Library Lab allows us to invest locally while ensuring our documents are protected and accessible for years to come.”

Located at Hartford Public Library’s Downtown Library, the DLL@HPL offers a full suite of services, including document digitization, media conversion, scanning, editing, and content creation. The Lab combines professional equipment with expert staff to deliver reliable, high-quality results tailored to organizational needs.

This new engagement marks an important milestone for the Digital Library Lab, reinforcing its role as a trusted, community-based resource for institutions seeking dependable digital solutions.
