Hartford Marathon Foundation Rallies Virtual Event Participation and Donations to Support MakerspaceCT Local Production of PPE

The non-profit Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF), which produces 30+ race events throughout southern New England, began rallying the community this month to keep active and to support an urgent local need. Forced to cancel road race events through May, HMF created the WeRunCT virtual challenge to encourage people to run or walk toward the collective goal of covering every square mile of the state - 5,018 miles. The virtual challenge kicked off April 7 and was quickly followed a few days later with a call to action to raise $5,018 to support the local efforts of MakerspaceCT in producing face shields for local healthcare heroes. The fundraiser posed the question "Can we raise as much as we run?".

COVID-19 Response: Capital Cares Student Fund Gets $20,000 Boost From Capital Community College Foundation

The Capital Community College Foundation is boosting an Emergency Microgrant Fund for students with a $20,000 grant to help undergraduates during the COVID-19 pandemic that closed the campus on March 12th and moved all courses online for the remainder of the semester.“The College is marshalling all available resources to transition to online learning and supporting our students,” said Capital CEO G. Duncan Harris, who serves as Foundation secretary.  “The Foundation’s support is going to make a critical difference. A campus shutdown means students may be cut off from key services such as food assistance or dealing with loss of a job.  This kind of direct support during social distancing is needed.”
