Aetna’s $10,000 Gift Helps Mercy Housing Support People Experiencing Homelessness in Hartford

(Hartford, CT | July 7, 2026) Mercy Housing & Shelter Corporation (Mercy Housing) is proud to announce a generous $10,000 donation from Aetna, a CVS Health company, to support the organization’s residential programs, supportive services, and outreach efforts for local individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The contribution will help Mercy Housing continue providing nourishing meals, safe shelter, housing assistance, case management, and critical support services designed to help some of the most vulnerable people in our community achieve long-term stability and independence.

“When people are safely housed and supported through Mercy’s programs, their overall health and well-being improve dramatically, creating a pathway to stability and long-term success,” explained Kara Capone, CEO of Mercy Housing. “That’s why we are so incredibly grateful to Aetna for their generous support of our mission. Their donation will directly impact the lives of the individuals and families we serve by helping us provide not only housing, but also the compassionate services and supports people need to rebuild their lives. Partnerships like this make a meaningful difference in our community.”

Aetna’s support also reflects its ongoing commitment to the Hartford community and to investing in partnerships that strengthen the region for the long term. By backing organizations like Mercy Housing, Aetna is helping build a stronger, healthier community where more individuals and families have the opportunity to achieve stability, well-being, and hope for the future.

“Aetna is proud to support Mercy Housing and the important work they do every day to help individuals and families facing homelessness,” said Marie Spadorcia, Vice President of Strategic Programs at Aetna and a member of the Board of Directors at Mercy Housing. “Everyone deserves the safety and stability of a place to call home, and we are honored to help Mercy continue providing housing, support, and hope to people across our community.”

Aetna is also making a hands-on impact through volunteer service  with team members dedicating their time to prepare and serve meals at Mercy Housing’s soup kitchen, stock and organize the food pantry and stock the clothing closet to ensure individuals and families in need receive the support they deserve.

In addition to this financial support and volunteer service from Aetna, Mercy Housing also recently received a Hometown Fund grant from the CVS Health Foundation  https://www.cvshealth.com/news/community/cvs-health-foundation-invests-1-million-in-hartford.html. Since 2022, the CVS Health Foundation has invested $8 million in grants to numerous organizations in the greater Hartford area and the Hometown Fund grant to Mercy Housing will further support efforts to improve health outcomes for the people of Hartford.

Mercy Housing & Shelter Corporation has been serving people in need of safe housing and supportive services for more than 43 years, offering emergency shelter, supportive housing, homelessness prevention services, and programs that empower individuals and families to move toward self-sufficiency.
