Nassau Financial Group Expands Partnership with MHA

September 9, 2025 | As Nassau Financial Group marks its tenth year in business in 2025, the Hartford-based insurance and retirement solutions company has expanded its partnership with the MetroHartford Alliance.

Sam Caligiuri, Nassau’s Deputy General Counsel, has joined the MHA's Board of Directors, strengthening the organization’s focus on talent and economic growth, as well as partnerships with state and local leaders. Sam leads the team responsible for providing all legal and related advice to Nassau’s insurance operations.

“We’re thrilled to have Sam as the newest member of our board,” noted David Griggs, President and CEO of the MetroHartford Alliance. “Nassau has been a pillar in the Hartford community, from taking over the city’s iconic boat building to creating innovative programs that promote the area as an ideal place to live, work, and play.”

Before his role at Nassau, Sam served as an attorney and partner at Day Pitney LLP, where he chaired the Firm’s Insurance Regulatory and Transactions practice group. In addition to his time at Day Pitney, Sam served as Deputy Legal Counsel to the Governor of Connecticut from 1995 to 1997, as a Connecticut State Senator from 2007 to 2011, and as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Sam is active in industry and related organizations, including the Federation of Regulatory Counsel, the Association of Life Insurance Counsel, and the National Association of Corporate Directors. Additionally, Hands on Hartford, a nonprofit committed to increasing food security, improving health, and providing housing support in the Hartford community, recently welcomed Sam to their Board of Directors. Sam also serves on the Board of Directors of Hartford-based Second Chance Re-entry Initiative Program (SCRIP), which empowers individuals coming out of prison to navigate trauma and reintegrate successfully into society.

In addition to enhancing its presence on the MHA Board, Nassau also partnered with us to host the recent Summer Intern Mixer, produced by Hartford Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs (HYPE), the MHA’s talent retention initiative. Over a hundred Hartford-area interns gathered in Nassau’s courtyard for an evening of food, drinks, and lawn games, promoting connection for young professionals from dozens of companies across multiple industries.

This event was held on the heels of Connecticut Insurance and Financial Services (CT-IFS) annual Actuarial Bootcamp. Celebrating its 14th year and 4th time at Nassau, this weeklong intensive program introduces high school students and college freshmen to the actuarial and math sciences profession and preps them for their first actuarial exam.

Looking ahead, Nassau is joining forces with CT-IFS as this year’s Community Impact Partner for the upcoming Insuring the Future Conference on September 30, 2025. The collaboration will feature an activity designed to unite local sponsors, insurance regulators, and other special guests to assemble humanitarian kits for a local charitable partner.
